VI. Unfinished Business and General Orders
A. MariEats Update presented by Jerry & Aria
The MariEats app plans on adding new discounts for Pandeli’s Pizza in NDG and Pizzeria 900 on Westmount. Furthermore, since there is currently no way of verifying that the person using the app is actually from Marianopolis, they will look into authentication to make it exclusive for Marianopolis students.
VII. New Business
A. StudentCare by Jerry & Aria
Jerry received an email from Shayna Flurry, a representative of the StudentCare organization, which provides a number of insurance services relating to mental health, dental care, and special projects. They want to set up a 30 minute meeting with Congress to come discuss some possibilities of working together. Congress pointed out that Marianopolis students already have insurance with the college. However, it isn’t clear what insurance the students have specifically; this matter will be looked into further before contacting the organization.
B. Agreement Between College and Union (Aria)
The first draft of the agreement between the College and the Student Union is done. Congress will most likely go through it clause by clause at their next meeting and vote on each clause, covering topics like inventory control, procedures for conflicts with the college, budget and other matters. This agreement is signed every year by the president, vice president, director general, director student services. Aria will post the draft so that Congress members can look over it before next meeting, and come up with feedback, solutions and potential modifications. A meeting must also be arranged with the school to review the agreement.
C. Student discomfort by Elizabeth
A student has approached Elizabeth and spoken about the discomfort that some female students feel because of the male custodian that often cleans the main bathroom on the ground floor, as opposed to a female custodian. Congress discussed whether anything could be done about the situation, and concluded that perhaps it would be best for the custodian to clean the bathroom during class time or when no one is using it.
D. Vagina monologues by Meghan and Elizabeth
Meghan and Elizabeth have been working with Professor Dolores Chew on the Vagina Monologues, an event where many participants from different institutions read a set of scripted monologues that usually include stories involving topics generally considered as taboo and prompt discussion among attendees. This event will take place on the evening of February 21st in the Student Lounge and requires participants to apply beforehand in order to get a script. Recruitment of helpers at the event must begin soon.
E. FSAG upcoming meeting
There will be a Food Services Advisory Group meeting next week. Congress discussed some concerns or updates that should be brought up at the meeting. Meghan and David have drafted a letter with some recommendations that they sent out to the cafeteria owner. David has been messaging her consistently, but plans on gathering more resources before contacting her again.
Congress then discussed some more issues, including some concerning the chef, who put mayonnaise on a student’s vegan sandwich, is reportedly rude and not very sympathetic and often ignores requests for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and healthier options. The service is also quite slow; Congress suggested having two chefs instead of one during peak times.
On another note, Wenhan wants to contact the cafeteria chefs to possibly organize something for International Week, starting on March 18.
F. Carnival show by Trudy
Trudy was contacted by Kevin, the agent for Spidey, a Marianopolis alumni and successful hypnotist, mentalist and magician. As he will be in town on March 14, his agent asked if Marianopolis would be interested in having him perform during AP at an alumni discount. Congress discussed this possibility and concluded that, due to budget restrictions, it would be more beneficial to use the money for more free food days or other activities.
Motion to adjourn – Passed (unanimous)
This meeting was adjourned at 4:53 P.M.
Total duration: 34 minutes.
