  • Unfinished Business and General Orders
  • Designated Smoking Spaces on Campus presented by David for Trudy

The college would like to move towards a smoke-free campus. However, this will have to be a gradual process, and the college is interested in hearing student perspectives on the matter.

Congress suggested some ideas and discussed whether the designated smoking areas should be banned. Finally, Congress unanimously agreed to suggest that the college keeps the temporary restricted smoking zone, but move it to another area–perhaps at the back of the school–to allow for a transition period, eventually moving into a smoke-free campus. Congress also suggested increasing the fines for smoking in non-designated areas.

  • New Business
  • New Office presented by David

The Congress office will be moved to A-159 after March break; this change is temporary and there will be a possibility for next year’s Congress to move into another room. Congress also now has access to two billboards for announcements.

  • Shaved Head Challenge presented by Sophie

The Charities and Volunteering Committee is trying to organize a Shave-to-Save challenge and fundraiser for Leucan this semester. Sophie posted a sign-up form on the MSU Facebook group, and eight people have signed up so far. Congress discussed other ways in which this event could be promoted, including sharing photos of the successful Shave-to-Save last year, the creation of a poster for information, etc.

  • Living Library by Elizabeth

The Social Justice Committee’s Living Library event for Black History Month led to good discussions between attendees. However, to promote the event even more in the future, the committee could reach out to certain certificates (ie: International Certificate).

  • Adjournment

This meeting was adjourned at 4:47 P.M.

Total duration: 26 minutes.
