I. Call to Order
The Regular Weekly Marianopolis Student Union (MSU) Congress Meeting of February 8, 2018 was convened at 4:20 P.M. by President Ramiz A. Razzak.
II. Roll Call of Members
The MSU Congress Members who are present at this meeting are: David Cao, Yiwen Chen, Neil Cordingley, Meghan Couture, Michael Di Giorgio, Elizabeth Hua, Jasmine Kotsiopoulos, Abhinav Pal, Ramiz A. Razzak, Veronica Rodighiero, Jia Rong Shao, and Linda Zhu.
A. Guests presented by Ramiz A. Razzak
The guests who are present at this meeting are: Karin Kassabian, a representative from the Marianopolis World Review, and Trudy Ste-Croix, the Student Services Representative.
III. Approval of last meeting’s Minutes
The Minutes of the Regular Weekly MSU Congress Meeting of February 2, 2018 were written by Jasmine Kotsiopoulos. These Minutes were approved by Ramiz A. Razzak on the 9th of February, 2018.
IV. Approval of the Agenda
The Agenda of this day’s meeting has been unanimously approved.
V. Guest Speaker
Rory, a student from Marianopolis, expressed the desire to bring an awareness week for autism. The event would take place in April, as it is known as autism acceptance month. There would be presentations by guest speakers that Rory knows within the autism community. The goal of this event is to inform students about autism and get rid of the stigma. Rory also hopes that Congress can work with the board to renew the quiet eating area for students who are uncomfortable eating in the crowded and loud cafeteria. Michael will continue to meet with Rory to build the framework for the event.
VI. Unfinished Business and General Orders
A. Mid-Semester Party presented by Veronica Rodighiero
Veronica presented the venue for the Mid-Semester Party, Loft le Quatrième. She explained that we could either use both the bottom loft, which would be where the actual party would take place, and the top loft, a more relaxed environment with different games and places to sit. There will be an open bar the whole night. The cost for both lofts is $7,243.43 and if we were to only use the bottom loft, the cost would be $4656.49. Each loft can fit 100 people. We will be selling tickets at the school only.
Motion to approve using only the first loft for the party – Approved (Unanimously)
B. End of Year Party presented by Ramiz A. Razzak
Ramiz explained that he was contacted by École Privée about hosting our end of year party at their venue. It would cost $25,000 and the venue would be ours for the entire night, we would not be sharing with the public. The venue can hold a maximum of 300 people. Ramiz will continue to get updates on the venue.
VII. New Business
A. Tire sur Neige presented by Meghan Couture
Meghan explained that she wants to have a Tire sur Neige event next Thursday during Activity Period. It would cost $1700.00 for 500 sticks and we would sell them for $1.25 each.
Motion to approve Tire sur Neige event – Approved (12 yes, 1 no)
B. La Photographie presented by Meghan Couture
Meghan would also like to have photography sessions for students during Activity Period where students could pay for provided photographers and all proceeds would go to charity. Meghan has already gathered a group of student photographers from Marianopolis.
C. International Week presented by Yiwen Chen
Yiwen hopes to have an International Week to promote the cultural diversity within the school. She hopes to have guest speakers and a trivia event during an Activity Period.
A. Congress Cleaning presented by Ramiz A. Razzak
Ramiz would like for everyone to take the chance to clear out any of their belongings that they have left behind in the Congress Office and asks that we remember that the office is for Congress work only.
