  • Approval of the Agenda

The Agenda of this day’s meeting has been unanimously approved.

  • Unfinished Business and General Orders
  1. Meeting Day and Frequency presented by Tristan
Tristan asks if meetings can be held on a weekly basis instead of a bi-weekly basis, as having more frequent meetings would lower the duration of individual meetings.
  • New Business
  1. Committee Selection presented by Misha
Misha will begin selection of new Student Advocacy committee members for summer.
  2. Welcome Back Gifts presented by Tristan
    Discussed content wasn’t noted down.
  3. BLM Campaign presented by Tristan
Tristan will be working on the BLM Campaign throughout the summer.
  4. Joint BLM statement presented by Laurence
The joint BLM statement is ready for publication, but waiting for the administration’s response on making the joint post.
  5. CASAQ (formerly COAC) update resented by Laurence
COAC (the Confederation of Anglophone Colleges) has been renamed to CASAQ (the Coalition of Anglophone Student Association of Quebec) and its new Constitution has been adopted.
  6. Virtual Frosh presented by Laurence
Laurence asks whether MSU would be interested to join the COCA Virtual Frosh that Trudy identified. The Virtual Frosh would happen on Thursday, September 10th at 8:00 PM EDT and will feature performers. The proposed cost is 3000$, though Trudy managed to lower it to 500$.

However, based on Maria’s poll in the MSU Facebook group, although there were 21 votes for “yes I’d be interested”, Congress decided that the COCA Virtual Frosh might not benefit a larger part of the student body.
  7. Progress tracking tools presented by Laurence
Laurence asks whether it would be convenient to transition to tools like Slack, Notion or Trello to better track progress.
  8. Support for Indigenous Education Demands presented by Laurence
Laurence asks whether Congress would be interested to support demands started by Indigenous students about fair access to teaching resources and conditions during the pandemic in the upcoming fall semester.

The consensus is that it would be difficult for Congress to endorse at the present moment in the summer, as incoming first year students’ views might not be reflected in a Congress endorsement on behalf of all of MSU.
  • Varia
    1. MSU App presented by Laurence
Laurence asks if anyone would like to add new features to the MSU app. Tristan asks if it would be possible to link the College’s documents related to counselling.
    2. Budgeting presented by Laurence
Laurence asks if it would be possible for Congress to determine the budget breakdown.
    3. Welcome back event presented by multiple people
      Discussed content wasn’t noted down.
    4. BLM Campaign Dates presented by multiple people
